Make a list of your triggers e.g:
*My size
*My shape
*No energy … my fitness level
*No interest … what’s the point?
*My imagination … everyone will be looking at me!
*My age
*My self esteem
Which of these do you want to change – it may be more than one, if so prioritise.
Be aware of the cycle that is controlling your behaviour e.g:
*thoughts *mood *behaviour.
If you’re sad and this usually makes you reach for the ice cream …
(should it be in the house anyway) … recondition your pattern of behaviour.
Yes, I know it’s not easy and it’s a really nice ice cream, but we want to change how we think. |
|
What can we do instead? If we think the only way to ease our problem is to comfort eat, then we won’t be able to change. It doesn’t mean we can never have ice cream, just that at this time, we are getting into a very destructive habit, not easily broken.
Don’t make excuses to yourself, if you know your habits are destructive – at least be honest with yourself.
Once practised changing those negative ideas and thoughts, you will have a greater chance of determining your own mood and choices.
Remember, you can be in control of what path you choose to take … you know the outcome, but it takes practice – so Never give up! |

Why is our MOOD so important?
Because it can be responsible for the success of the changes we desire to make.
You have read on the previous pages, how our thoughts control our MOODS and emotions.
If you get a thought such as: ‘I can’t do this!’ … a cycle then begins which can determine our next move …
Try to look at what sort of emotions you experience when wanting to change your eating habits, if you have these sort of thoughts, e.g. are you:
*Upset
*Irritable
*Unhappy
*Glad – ‘maybe it’ll provide me with an excuse not to try’
*Sad
Whatever the emotion you feel, it may well determine what you do next. For instance:
*Eat more
*Not eat at all
*Hide away – avoid people
Ask yourself … what brings your mood down and in what situation? We already know why it can be low, as it’s controlled by our thoughts … but what are your triggers?
